<hi style=afpcap>The Bellanca C-27 was originally a civilian transport aircraft which was adapted for military use. Four Y1C-27s were obtained in 1932 with enlarged cargo loading doors to evaluate the design for possible Army use. A further twn C-27As were ordered in 1933 with a different engine producing more power. A single C-27B was modified from the second C-27A but with yet a further engine change. All surviving Y1C-27s and C-27As were later re-engined with the Wright Cyclone with the designation C-27C being applied. The C-27 was an unusual design with a high wing, coupled to a partial lower wing which acted at a strengthening bar as well as housing the main undercarriage. </hi>
